Playaway Audio Books

The following audio/visual materials are available to library patrons and may be checked out from the main library.

Playaway audio books are compact and easy to use.

How would you like an audio book small enough to put in your pocket, say about the size of a deck of cards, yet powerful enough to hold an entire novel with no discs or cassettes to juggle? What if it allowed you to adjust the talking speed and how loud it is? But wait, there’s more! What if it also stopped where you stopped and picked up right where you left off?

Sound good? You can find these at Rodman Public Library and the rental is free!

Playaways are the first pre-loaded digital audiobooks that hold content ranging from 6 to 40+ hours. Created using flash memory technology each unit offers sharp, clear digital sound and runs on a couple of AAA batteries.

Playaways have a universal headphone jack that works with almost any type of headphone or mobility accessory. If you don’t have earphones, Rodman Public Library provides them for a dollar.

You can even listen to a Playaway audio book in your car since Playaway is designed to use most commonly available adapters and FM transmitters.

Rodman Public Library currently owns 32 Playaways with authors ranging from Janet Evanovich to J.D. Robb to John Sandford and titles like The Shack, Act of Treason, and From Dead to Worse. To see the complete list of playaways, do a keyword search, "playaways," on the library’s catalog and look for the Playaway catalog icon.
