Nature Books

The Library’s Information and Reference Center has chosen to highlight the following new books to help patrons find answers to a variety of questions.

NATIVE PLANTS OF OHIO

This booklet, published by the Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, is a full color description of native plants of Ohio. The 70+ page pamphlet begins with an introduction on how to grow a native Ohio garden, including planning backyard landscaping, benefits of landscaping and information resources. The pamphlet is divided into sections including prairie, forest, wetlands, disturbed and non-native plants. Family, life span, zone, height and color are the points that are included in the description of each flower. This is a must-see for any plant or nature lover.

BIRDS OF THE WORLD: A PHOTOGRAPHIC GUIDE, by Andrew Gosler, General Editor

This 300+ page photographic guide includes photos and descriptions of over 1,300 species, including a full listing of every bird species in the world! From explaining the adaptation of birds to descriptions of each bird family in the world, this book is the ultimate reference for bird fanatics. There are color-coded sections for each region of the world; from the neotropical region, to the afrotropical region, to the oriental and other regions of the world. The book concludes with an index including a complete world checklist of birds.

FLOWERING PLANT FAMILIES OF THE WORLD, by V.H. Heywood, R.K. Brummitt, A. Culham, and O. Seberg

Beginning with classifications and moving to full color pictures and descriptions of types of plants, this book is the ultimate reference for those who want information on flowering plants. Information included is distribution, description, classification and economic issues. An alphabetical index is located in the back of the book for ease of use.
