Expanded Computer Services at Rodman Public Library

Download Videos to Your Computer

MyLibraryDV logoMyLibraryDV is a new downloadable video service available through Rodman Public Library. If you have a broadband connection to the Internet through DSL or cable and a Rodman Library card, then you have access to more than 450 video programs that you can "check out" for viewing on your home computer.

Programs include food, health, travel (including Globe Trekker and Rick Steves), how-to (including Antiques Roadshow), and classic movies. All videos are checked out for one week and you can download up to ten during any seven day period.

At the end of the seven days, the video is automatically deleted from your computer and "checked in" – there are no overdue fines! To subscribe to this service, follow the instructions on the MyLibraryDV web site.

Indexing Alliance

The Alliance Index ( http://roc.rodmanlibrary.com:81 ) was recently introduced and indexes the pages of The Alliance Review. Obituaries, marriage notices, and news articles are included.

Once you locate a citation, the reference staff can assist you with the microfilm of the newspaper to see the actual article. Since this service is available over the Internet, the Reference Department has received requests from as far away as New Zealand and Hawaii for articles.

Email from the Library

If you have ever wanted to be the first to know when the library receives materials on a subject or by an author that interests you, now you can! By saving your favorite searches in the catalog and by including your email address in your record, you can now receive a message whenever the library adds something that matches your favorite search. It’s a great way to learn when new DVDs or large print items are available as well.

If you have materials checked out and want to avoid overdue fines, the library can send you a courtesy notice a day or two before your items are due to remind you to return or renew them. Check with any circulation desk to see if your email address is up-to-date or add it yourself through the "My Record/Renew" button at the top of any library web page.

Kids Play

Rodman Kids bannerThe new Rodman Kids web site is also a new service ( www.rodmanlibrary.com/kids ). It features a new mascot named Dewey and his adventures through the library. Games are included for various age groups as well as highlighted books from the collection. Stories from our popular Dial-A-Story (330-821-TELL) service are also available.

No matter what your pleasure, there is sure to be a computer service or class to meet your needs at Rodman Public Library.
